Cookie policy

Short version: this site sets no cookies of its own. There is no advertising, no cross-site tracking, and no analytics cookie. This page explains the few browser-storage and security details that do apply, so you have the full picture.

What a cookie is

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to store and send back on later visits. Cookies can be “strictly necessary” (needed for the site to work or stay secure) or non-essential (functional, analytics, or advertising). Non-essential cookies generally require your consent. We use none of the non-essential kind.

What we use instead

  • A local theme preference. When you switch between light and dark mode, your browser remembers it using localStorage — a per-device store that is not a cookie and is never sent to us or anyone else. Clearing your browser storage resets it.
  • Self-hosted fonts. Our typefaces are served from our own site, not from a third-party font service, so no request or cookie goes to an outside font provider.

Strictly-necessary security cookies

Our site is delivered through Cloudflare, which protects it from bots and abuse. To do that, Cloudflare may set strictly-necessary cookies such as __cf_bm (bot management) or a challenge cookie if you are asked to verify you are human. These are set by the security layer, last for a short time, carry no advertising purpose, and are exempt from consent because the site cannot safely operate without them. Analytics — cookieless

When analytics are enabled, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which measures aggregate traffic without setting a cookie and without fingerprinting or cross-site tracking. It is covered in our privacy policy.

What we will never do

We do not set advertising or marketing cookies, we do not embed third-party trackers or social pixels, and we do not sell or share browsing data. If we ever introduce a non-essential cookie, we will update this page and present a consent choice before that cookie is set — you would opt in, not out.

Controlling cookies

You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings, and clear local storage the same way. Help pages for the major browsers — Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari — each have a “cookies and site data” section. Blocking the strictly-necessary security cookies may cause parts of the site to challenge you more often or stop working.
